My Father by K…

My Father
by Kolleen Arnold
1976

Friendly yet Furiously
Adoring yet Aggravating
Tender yet Temperamental
Helpful yet Hindering
Eager yet Encroaching
Radiant yet Ratiocinative
Sentimental yet Stern

A father is a man who has a child that he sees is brought up as well as
possible according to his moral standards, as well as society’s ways.
A father has many joys as well as many disappointments with his child.
Many moments of pride along with moments shame.
Fathers are very lucky, if his children sincerely love him a father as
well as a person.
A father is lucky if his children talk to him and express their love
towards him.
Yes, fathers are very lucky people.
They should be proud to say that they have children who say, “I love you
Dad.”

My father is a very beautiful person.
He loves me and I know it because he tells me everyday.
I love him too and he knows it because I tell him everyday.
My father and I are very close.
My father can make me feel like I’m worth the world to him by merely
saying, “Kolleen, I love you.”
In saying this, he also makes me proud to know that he is not afraid to
show his love, as a lot of fathers are.

I’ve seen my father cry.
I don’t think it is wrong for him to cry.
I thought it is one of most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.
It means he has feelings, not that he is immature or feminine as many
people think.
Fathers are allowed to have feelings aren’t they?
After all, fathers are people too.

I feel that I am a very lucky person to have my father as he is.
He is wonderful, loving, ambitious, and most of all, of really loves me
and I love him.

Epilogue – 2004

I wrote this when I was sixteen, now I’m forty-three old and still feels
this way.
My father has become a very close friend and confidant.
Due to divorce, I accumulated two fathers and three mothers, but I only
have one daddy and that is you.

Epilogue II – 2014

Now, I’m fifty-three old and still feels this way.
My father is still a very, very close friend and confidant.
My father is getting older and frailer, and my time with my father is
running out.
We “jokingly” say, if his life were a baseball game, he is in the ninth
inning with two outs.
